Oftenly they answer: "an unhearted smile is no good, it's better not to smile if you don't feel it." Typical response told by the kind that don't like smiling or a common excuse for those who are sick and tired of listening their bosses ask them to smile over again.
But has anybody explained to them why it is so important to smile?
In the Upselling trainings I deliver I like to explain to the audience how the human brain works just to get them familiarized with the power of their body and hopefully make them understand it's importance on our social interaction.
I make special emphasis on teaching how to influence on our customers buying decissions and that includes "magical smiling".
Therefor I would like to share with you why smiling is so important in the sales process.
First of all the smile is not intended to please the customer, but to please our brain. Every time we smile we move a whole bunch of muscles in our face that in turn they produce "positive substances" in our brain (serotonin, dopamine, adrenalin) that go directly to our limbic system. Dopamine helps us be in a good mood, serotonine improves our sense of humor, gives us enthusiasm and adrenalin makes us pay better attention and keeps us focused.
Aren't they just the skills we need in a sales process?
But the power of a smile goes beyond that ... Smiling is contagious, so our smile will provoke customer smile ( mirror neurons process) and will gain the same benefits from his own smile, which makes him get in the "correct mood to buy".
Now that you know that a simple smile can increase revenue, are you still not willing to smile?
